The emission standards are intended to reduce the levels of unintended emissions from
electrical and electronic products to an acceptable level. The product family standards
have been introduced on a voluntary basis at the beginning of 1996 and were made mandatory
on 1 January 1997. The enforcement of the generic emission standard commenced from 1
July 1997. A comparison between the Australian and New Zealand standards and their
international or European equivalents is given in table1.
